Canada’s first mobile payment was made at Tim Hortons by Olympian Simon Whitfield

Tim Hortons recently made it easier for customers to pay for their delicious beverages and food by using Interact Flash, but now there’s another payment option in town. If you have a Rogers BlackBerry Bold 9900 or Curve 9380 you can use the “suretap” mobile payment app and simply tap your Berry to the terminal. This is not singled out to just Timmies, but thousands of other businesses that accept the VISA payWave and MasterCard PayPass terminals. However, to use it you’ll have to be signed up to Rogers, have downloaded the app and also have a CIBC credit card.

At a local Tim Hortons in Toronto the first mobile payment was made – which is cool as it’s now a piece of history. Olympic gold medalist Simon Whitfield was on hand, probably paid heavily, and purchased 3 coffees via a BlackBerry Bold 9900.

I'm obsessed with Tim Hortons. It runs through my veins and I've probably spent enough money downing Steeped Tea's that I could have purchased my own franchise.
