Starting today until August 1st, donut bakers from across the country have a chance to dream up what could be the next Tim Hortons donut. Eight contestants will pitch their donut creation at Tim Hortons head office in Oakville to four famous Canadians — Jason Priestley (past judge), Jann Arden, Anna Olson and Ben Mulroney (past judge) — for an opportunity for prime retail space on Tim Hortons shelves and a cool $10,000.
On Monday, August 18th, the Duelling Donuts competition will then see these 8 donuts go against each other in a gruelling competition where the public will cast the vote and crown a winner. The winner will be awarded $10,000 cash and their donut will be added to the Timmies menu “later this year.”
“Judging Tim Hortons Duelling Donuts contest last year was a donut day made in heaven, so I didn’t have to think twice about coming back this year to eat more donuts and spend the day with Ben, Jann and Anna,” says Jason Priestley. “Last year showed that Canadians go wild when it comes to donuts. I can’t wait to see what people create this year. And, I should warn my fellow panelists: donut tasting is no easy task. Poking holes – no pun intended – in these great donuts isn’t as easy as it seems.”
The Duelling Donut competition from last year saw Andrew Shepherd’s “Tortoise Torte” donut beat out Jason Flannery’s “Oreo Borealis” donut.
